Tribute to Friend of the Pink Ribbon Foundation Supports Future Patients

Friends and family of the late Sara Adair published thousands of copies of a book her brother Michael wrote and illustrated in honor of her challenge with breast cancer.    The book --- "101 Uses for an Empty Bra" --- is an effort to generate a smile to those affected by the serious and devastating effects of the disease.  Anyone who ever met Sara knows she always found a way to light up a room and generate a laugh despite the health challenges she faced everyday due to cancer. A portion of proceeds from the book will be donated to the Pink Ribbon Foundation, which in turn, benefits future patients at the same place where Sara received treatement, the University of Colorado Hospital's Anschutz Cancer Pavilion.  The book is ready for purchase just in time for the holidays so you, too, may share these inspiring cartoons with a loved one affected by breast cancer.  To purchase a copy, visit http://www.emptybra.com or click on the book cover image to the left.

Thanks to all who attended the 8th Annual "Power of Pink" Fundraising Gala on October 4th!

Thanks to you, we will help many, many more cancer patients in the future.  We successfully raffled off a number of LIVE and SILENT AUCTION items including a Subaru Forester and we drew one lucky winner of a Porsche Boxster from our annual RAFFLE DRAWING!  Congratulations to the winner holding TICKET # 0135 - a businessman from Colorado Springs - who was not in attendance but was notified with the news!

Additionally - thanks to the lucky winner from Sacramento, California, who was the top bidder on the PRF ebay charity auction for two people to go to the premiere of the High School Musical 3 movie and meet actor Zac Efron.  Thanks to the many bidders who ran this item up in the last few minutes, we raised $3,050 for our cause.  We have been told the mother and daughter winners had a wonderful time and were very pleased to win this item and support the PRF at the same time!

The Pink Ribbon Foundation (PRF) is a Colorado based 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing assistance to cancer patients at the University of Colorado Hospital for items and services that are not covered by insurance.  Click HERE to watch a profile done on the PRF on 9/15/08 by the host of our upcoming fundraising gala, Molly Hughes of CBS4 Denver.  It will show you first hand just how the patients are helped with PRF funding.

While the organization first evolved more than eight years ago in an effort to improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients, our focus has expanded to help patients suffering from other forms of the disease as well.

Thanks to fundraising efforts throughout the year, the PRF has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars of non-restrictable grants to patients through Anschutz Cancer Center’s Department of Integrative Medicine. Examples of items the PRF sponsors include the following:

  • Massage and acupuncture therapy for pain
  • Transportation assistance to and from chemo/radiation treatments
  • Daycare stipends for parents undergoing treatment
  • Grocery, utility, rent and mortgage assistance for financial hardships due to medical bills

Your donations to support the PRF effort are 100% tax deductible. The volunteers behind the scene who govern the organization and the patients who benefit from your generousity greatly appreciate your gesture of goodwill by supporting our program.

The Pink Ribbon Foundation is a 501-C-3 organization (IRS E.I.N. #84-1595000)

Founder's Story

My name is Ann Marie Foonberg.  While today the Pink Ribbon Foundation represents so many contributors and benefactors, it all started less than a decade ago in memory of my grandmother, Virginia Grace Kuhlemeyer.  She was a woman of courage and determination; and just like her name stated, she was a woman of grace.  My sisters and I had a bond with our grandmother that will never be broken, even by death.  She lost her battle with breast cancer eight years ago.
